Trinity Buoy Wharf & the Swirling Thames

Adventure Downstream

This riverside adventure explores the twists and turns of the Thames to the East of London on foot, cable car and Docklands Light Railway. We’ll pass exciting new developments, historic Docks and the delightful Trinity Buoy Wharf – a quirky creative hub and home to the world’s longest running musical composition. On our way we’ll ponder the ebbs and flows of water, people and industry in this most dynamic part of London.

Loved it. Having lived in London for 25 years it made me realise how much I didn’t know about the city. Rosie knits together all the disparate strands so well and is wonderful company. It was a delightful way to spend a few hours on a Saturday. Heartily recommend it.

Thank you Rosie, for taking us all on such a fascinating, surprising, and unusual walk on Saturday – everyone (from the age of 6-56!) thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Such a treat to explore such unexpected and exciting backwaters of London along the Thames, and to be able to put all the new developments, ventures and initiatives into the context of the history of London and the river. Highly recommended – a really unforgettable way to spend a Saturday.

What to expect

The tour starts at North Greenwich tube station and ends at East India Docklands Light Railway station. Tour goers will:

  • Explore the Thames around the O2 from the south and north sides of the river, and find out about the area’s history, industry and infrastructure
  • Swing across the Thames by Cable Car taking in fabulous views
  • Pass exciting new developments on foot and by Docklands Light Railway
  • Visit Royal Victoria Docks, East India Dock Basin and Trinity Buoy Wharf
  • Climb to the top of London’s only lighthouse to listen to Longplayer, the world’s longest running musical composition.

The tour takes 2 hours 30 mins, but we recommend stopping for lunch at Trinity Buoy Wharf (this would add 45 mins – 1 hour).
