Trafalgar Square skateboarders
London has been – and sounded – so very different under lockdown. I made this recording on a Friday afternoon reccie just as the restrictions were beginning to ease. It’s of Trafalgar Square – a tourist hotspot on a major traffic route through the West End. Unlike the usual pre-Covid din, there was scarcely a combustion engine to be heard (even though it was rush hour), nor commuters, tourists or buskers. Instead the place was full of skateboarders making some wonderfully rhythmic percussive sounds.
I’m so interested to see – and hear – what version of London emerges as we come out of lockdown. It’s something we’ll be investigating on our walks over the coming months.
